Hylas Abducted by River Nymphs, C379
  • Production Date

    No earlier than 1797
  • Type of Work / Object

    Drawing

Explanation

  • In few other drawings is Thorvaldsen’s interpretation so far from the approach that he represented as a sculptor. This is not solely on account of rare use of charcoal. Crucial, too, is the sensuality of the group of figures and the lyrical manner in which it is fitted into a detailed nature setting that is quite unusual in Thorvaldsen.
