The Piazza Barberini, D1826

Explanation

  • Beside the gate giving access to the area around the Palazzo Barberini the sculptor Luigi Bienaimé’s studio can be seen right out on the left and with blocks of marble in front. It is thought that behind it was Thorvaldsen’s large studio which he established in the 1820s when faced with a number of very large commissions. Just behind Bernini’s sculpture in the middle of the square can be seen the end of Vicolo delle Colonette, the street in which Thorvaldsen had his four small studios.
