A Neapolitan Family Scene, D850

Explanation

  • Ernst Meyer spent most of his life in Rome. He was a familiar figure in the group of artists associated with Thorvaldsen. His favourite motifs were the day-to-day life of the Roman people and the natural surroundings in and around Rome. His work is also very much characterized by the slightly sentimental portrayals of girls – especially young girls. Here, two women are sitting on a terrace overlooking the sea, busily occupied beneath a shading pergola. All is peace and idyll.
