ABOUT THE CONCERT
In February 1919 a new production called Aladdin by the famous danish playwright Adam Oehlenschläger was performed at The Royal Theatre – the music for this play was composed by Carl Nielsen. Whereas the premiere, primarily due to conflicts with the Director of the play, did not turn out to be a great succes, Carl Nielsen repeatedly used extracts from the music in his own concerts. These were later gathered and released as Aladdin-suite, consisting of seven parts from the original 80 minute long musical piece.
In Aladdin-suite Carl Nielsen makes use of his solid classical composition technique and the danish song to be able to engage other cultures in his expression, and thereby acknowledge that the world is diverse and beautiful. Thematics that also Bertel Thorvaldsen has contributed to the danish culture through his art and life.
