Decorated ceilings, mosaic floors and Bertel Thorvaldsen’s sculptures in plaster and marble – the museum offers a world-class art and architecture experience.
Thorvaldsen's private collections
You can also see beautiful paintings from the Danish Golden Age or dip into thousands of objects from classical antiquity. Bertel Thorvaldsen’s private collection comprises both his own and others’ works, and you can see it all here at the museum, where the collections are presented in a setting full of colour and architectural distinctiveness.
On the ground floor you step directly into Thorvaldsen’s extensive collection of his own plaster and marble sculptures, and on the first floor of the museum you can go exploring in the collection of paintings and antiquities. Read more about the collections here.
In the menu above you will find practical information about visits to the museum. Among other things you can borrow a free audio guide or our family activities. We look forward to welcoming you into Thorvaldsen’s universe.
