COPENHAGEN JAZZ FESTIVAL X THORVALDSENS MUSEUM
CORT LUNDE
6.7.2024, 8PM
Sculptures Must Be Sensed, Seen, and Heard!
This year, during the jazz festival, the museum is hosting a unique concert experience featuring the fantastic jazz duo Cort Lunde, consisting of Thomas Cortes (bass, sampler, etc.) and Erik Lunde (trumpet, flutes, etc.). This concert is the result of a residency at Thorvaldsens Museum, where they will perform newly composed works created specifically for Bertel Thorvaldsen's iconic mythological sculptures. Join us and listen to the sounds of, among others, Mercury as Argus-Slayer and discover new ways to experience the sculptures.
Through a blend of electronic music production, contemporary improvisational music, and classical arrangements, Cort Lunde creates a beautiful and meditative jazztronica universe. The music is organic and layered with crackling beats and electronic soundscapes that captivate the listener's attention and open up new understandings of the historical and mythological themes.
Cort Lunde's musical interpretations of Thorvaldsen's sculptures will include works such as "Minerva Gives Soul to the Man Created by Prometheus," "Bacchus," "Vulcan," "Mercury as Argus-Slayer," and "Psyche with the Beauty Salve." For example, the myth of Mercury and Argus will be reflected in the use of flutes, while "Minerva Gives Soul to the Man Created by Prometheus" will be explored through a special hexatonic Prometheus scale.
The duo started during the Corona pandemic and has since made a mark with concerts outside traditional venues, including garden concerts and performances at art museums. Their debut album "Flora Electronica" was praised as "Album of the Week" on P8 Jazz, and their latest album "Hydrophilia" was launched with a grand concert at Jazzhus Montmartre.
Experience Cort Lunde live in the beautiful acoustic setting of Thorvaldsens Museum, where they will bring Thorvaldsen's sculptures to life through their innovative and captivating soundscapes.
We look forward to welcoming you to an evening filled with musical magic and cultural depth.
